Richard S. Berg
Founder & CEO
Richard is CEO and co-founder of PT Financial, LLC, the parent company of PT Asset Management, LLC and its sister company, Performance Trust Capital Partners, LLC.
Richard was a Contributing Editor for the ABA Banking Journal for five years and is a featured speaker at numerous banking, insurance and professional conferences and seminars throughout the United States. He is also a frequent guest on CNBC, Bloomberg TV & Radio, MSNBC, and Fox Business News.
Richard received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Wheaton College and an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management.
Chief Investment Officer
Ethan is responsible for the management of PTAM’s investment activities and risk oversight, along with new investment product and strategy development.
Ethan began his financial services career in 1994 with Chicago-based Citadel Investment Group, LLC. During his tenure at Citadel, he became a Managing Director and Senior Portfolio Manager. In 2005, he joined a Chicago startup company as Executive Vice President, and later became a member of its Board of Directors. In 2009, Ethan became a Portfolio Manager/Strategist for a Lake Forest, IL-based proprietary trading firm where he ran complex strategies employing corporate bonds, swaps, derivatives, currencies, equities and Treasuries. Since 2006, Ethan has also served as a volunteer advisor to the $700 million Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago endowment fund.
Ethan holds an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
S. Jay Novatney, Esq., CFA
Chief Operating Officer
Jay is a member of the senior executive team, responsible for the oversight of PTAM’s back office function including operations, finance, and accounting as well as coordination of the firm’s legal and compliance functions.
Prior to joining PTAM, Jay spent over nine years as a principal of Chicago Fundamental Investment Partners, LLC (CFIP), a credit-focused alternative investment management firm, after having co-founded the firm in late 2005. During his tenure at CFIP, he managed a variety of senior-level functions including the firm’s operations, finance, legal and compliance activities. Jay began his investment management career in 2001 at Citadel Investment Group, LLC where he spent four years as an analyst with Citadel’s credit group focusing on high yield/distressed debt and special situations investments. From 1996 to 2001, he was a corporate/M&A associate at Latham & Watkins LLP, a large international law firm.
Jay holds a law degree from the University Of Virginia School Of Law and an undergraduate degree in Engineering Sciences from Harvard University where he graduated magna cum laude. He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst, a member of the CFA Society of Chicago, and a member of the Illinois State Bar Association.
Chief Marketing Officer
Rick has principal responsibility for the development, planning and execution of PTAM’s global marketing and investor relations strategy. Rick brings over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry, including 10 years of hedge fund specific work across several firms and diverse investment products. Prior to joining PTAM, he was in similar roles with C2J Investments, LLC, Stafford Asset Management, LLC, and Ritchie Capital Management where he was directly involved in organizational and product development, institutional capital raising efforts, and investor relations. Prior to his time spent in the alternatives industry, Rick spent over 10 years as an equity options trader and a founding partner of a Chicago Board Options Exchange based trading firm.
Rick earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from Eastern Illinois University.
